AAP govt to introduce GST Bill in Assembly during monsoon session

Officials said the government is waiting for the Centre to issue the notification to all states, after which it can introduce the Bill in the Assembly.

With the Delhi Assembly’s monsoon session slated to begin on August 22, the government will bring in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill that was cleared by both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Officials said the government is waiting for the Centre to issue the notification to all states, after which it can introduce the Bill in the Assembly.

Sources believe that once the Bill is notified, it can be introduced in the Assembly with just a short brief. “We do not have to make the Bill, it is already there. We just have to bring it in with a note,” said an official.

The political dispensation in Delhi has already made clear to the bureaucracy that it is in favour of bringing in the GST Bill.

Officials of the VAT department are also being trained in GST implementation.
