Gujarat collects Rs 6,608 crore as GST for October

AHMEDABAD: The collection for Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the state for the month of October stood at Rs 6,608 crore, according to data provided by the state commercial tax department. This includes integrated GSTworth Rs 2,286.75 crore in addition to Rs 1,400.83 crore of central GST and Rs 1,880.83 worth of state GST. Cessworth Rs 314.58 crore was also collected by the state commercial tax department.

It appears as though the GST collection in the state is going up very gradually. “As more and more taxpayers are getting registered, the collection is gradually going up and as the new tax structure keeps getting further simplified, the revenues will further increase,” said PD Vaghela, commercial tax commissioner.

The total revenue of the state government comes to Rs 2,605.83 crore which includes Rs 1,880.83 crore of SGST in addition to some Rs 725 crore worth of adjustments of IGST. More than 6.9 lakh taxpayers have registered themselves under the GST regime till October 31, according to data provided by commercial tax department.

Of these, close to 1 lakh taxpayers have opted for the composition scheme. “As the quarterly returns will start getting filed by those under composition scheme, the state revenues will continue to go up,” said a senior official of state commercial tax department.

Varis Isani, president, Gujarat Sales Tax Bar Association (GSTBA), said, “Minor problems with servers and unavailability of certain modules remain which is hampering the return filing process. At the same time, there is a recessionary trend due to which business itself is slow and therefore the tax liability too is less.”
